The Final Binding

Julian didn't walk toward her. He simply appeared at the edge of the altar.
His human facade was gone. He still looked like Julian Sterling, but his edges were blurred, radiating a terrifying, massive weight of ancient darkness. Shadows writhed around his feet like living serpents. His eyes were no longer human; they were twin voids of absolute, consuming hunger.
“Clara,” he said. The sound was a physical blow. It hit her in the chest, forcing the breath from her lungs.
Clara gripped the dagger tighter. “Stay back! I’ll do it! I’ll end it all!”
Julian smiled, a slow, devastating expression of pity.
He didn't lunge. He simply released the full, unbridled pressure of his ancient soul.
It was like a mountain collapsing onto her shoulders. Clara screamed as her knees buckled under the sheer spiritual gravity of his presence. The dagger slipped from her numb fingers, clattering uselessly onto the obsidian floor. She collapsed onto her back, pinned entirely to the freezing stone by a force she couldn't see but could feel crushing her very atoms.
Julian stepped forward, towering over her in the darkness. He knelt slowly, his movements fluid and terrible.
He reached out, tracing a cold finger down her cheek, wiping away a tear. “You are so brave, my little bird. So defiant. That is why your light sustains me for so long. But the struggle is over now. The hunt is finished.”
“Please,” Clara sobbed, unable to move her arms, unable to turn her head. “Please, Julian. Just let me die. Let me go.”
“I could never let you go,” he whispered fiercely, leaning down until his lips were hovering inches from hers. The smell of sandalwood and ancient, rotting dust filled her senses. “You are mine. Before the oceans were formed, you were mine.”
He placed a hand flat against her chest, right over her heart. It was freezing, but beneath it, Clara felt a horrific, burning sensation begin to spread.
“From dust to dust,” Julian murmured, his voice layering over itself, echoing with the voices of a Victorian gentleman, a medieval inquisitor, an ancient priest. “Your light is mine.”
He pressed his lips to hers.
It wasn't a kiss. It was an invasion.
Clara’s eyes flew wide open in absolute horror as she felt something massive, dark, and unimaginably ancient force its way down her throat. He wasn't pulling her soul out this time. He was pushing his into her.
The pain was beyond physical. It was the sensation of her very identity being shredded, consumed, and overwritten. The dark entity flooded her veins, poured into the hollow spaces of her mind, devouring her memories, her terror, her love, her hate. It burned away her rebellion. It consumed her spark.
She screamed against his mouth, but the sound was swallowed. The darkness filled her eyes, drowning out the cavern, drowning out the world.
The last thing Clara Sterling felt was the horrific, suffocating warmth of absolute possession. And then, her soul flickered, and went entirely dark.
