Ten years ago, the Whispering Fog swallowed Vance Carter whole because Sadie Miller let go of his hand. Now, the decennial anomaly has returned to the dying logging town of Oakhaven, claiming a local teenager. Defying police orders, a fiercely reckless Sadie drives directly into the supernatural mist, determined to brave the terrifying, ash-covered dimension known as The Echo.
