Chapter 7
Severing the Dao
❧
"Han, no!" Chloe screamed. "That's the Heavens!"
"If the Dao requires me to be heartless," Han roared at the golden eye, "then I will sever the Dao, not her!"
**[FOOL,]** the Heavens boomed. **[YOU WILL BE UNMADE.]**
A pillar of tribulation lightning, thick as a mountain, crashed down.
Han didn't block it. He embraced it.
He ignited his Dantian. A golden sphere—his Golden Core, the source of his immortality—floated out of his chest.
"Shatter," Han commanded.
The Golden Core exploded.
The force of a god destroying his own divinity was cataclysmic. A shockwave of pure white energy blasted upward, colliding with the tribulation lightning.
The Void turned white.
Chloe was thrown backward, but a gentle, cool barrier wrapped around her—Han’s last defensive spell.
She watched through the shield as Han fought the sky. He was burning. He was bleeding. He was laughing.
He slashed the golden eye. He cut the threads of fate that bound him to the Vow.
"I! AM! MORTAL!" Han screamed.
The explosion peaked. The Shattered Void collapsed.
