The New Schedule

Six months later.
The paparazzi still camped outside the downtown penthouse occasionally, but they rarely got anything worth selling. Julian Fox, the notorious Hollywood playboy, had officially retired from acting. He had taken a position directing an indie film shooting entirely in Los Angeles, ensuring he was home by six o'clock every evening.
Chloe Vance had formally resigned from her massive, toxic PR agency. She had opened her own boutique crisis management firm, operating out of a small, sunny office three blocks from Leo’s elementary school. She no longer carried a laminated, color-coded spreadsheet.
It was a Friday night.
The penthouse living room was, as usual, a disaster zone. A massive fort constructed from expensive sofa cushions and bedsheets dominated the center of the room.
Inside the fort, illuminated by the glow of a laptop screen playing an animated movie, lay the Fox family.
Julian was sprawled on his back, wearing an old t-shirt, fast asleep. His arm was thrown protectively over Leo, who was curled into Julian’s side, softly snoring, a plastic dinosaur clutched in his hand.
Chloe sat cross-legged beside them, wearing Julian’s oversized flannel shirt. She wasn't checking her emails. She wasn't managing a crisis. She was just sitting in the quiet, messy chaos of her home.
She looked down at the heavy, brilliant diamond ring sparkling on her left hand. It was the same ring Julian had bought for the fake engagement stunt six months ago. But the promise it held now was entirely, beautifully real.
Chloe reached out, gently brushing a stray curl from Leo’s sleeping face. Then, she leaned over and pressed a soft kiss to Julian’s jaw. Julian stirred slightly in his sleep, his arm instinctively tightening around Leo, his other hand blindly reaching out until it found Chloe’s knee, resting there heavily, grounding them all.
There were no cameras. There were no reporters. There was no schedule.
There was only a happy ending, exactly the way they had built it.
